Team Redline took to the track in an epic field for the inaugural SimTrophy Silverstone challenge. Featuring Dom Duhan, Greger Huttu, Luke McLean and Bastien Barstch. After a clean sweep in the heats all eyes were on for a strong main event.
Qualifying started with a strong laptime of 1:41.7 from Bastien a personal best and a great time to do it, Luke also pulled out a 1:41.7, but all eyes were on Greger as he sealed pole with a 1:41.575 a world record time. Dom was beset with problems and discoed during qual, luckily on the final lap he managed to get in a respectable 1:42.3 which put him in 10th place but was way off his 41.8 best. So 3 Team Redline drivers in the top 3!
The race start was rolling which saw little in the way of dramas, Greger, Bastien and Luke started to pull away at the front whilst Dom also made his way through the field with some audacious moves. Then at the midway point things started going badly, Bastien received a black flag and had to slow down losing a few places, Dom after going from 11th to 8th found a bag of neutrals into the pit lane and broke his suspension and finally Greger who was leading at the time got tangled with Peter Read who slightly outbraked himself into Vale. This put pay to Gregers race as his suspension was damaged.
Luke now led, and with Max D behind he couldn't relax, Luke's pace was immense however and he pulled out time lap after lap to seal the win!
Luke had this to say:
"Thank you to the organizers (Frosty especially) for created such a wonderful event. It was a really tough field of some of the best sim racers in the world, and to get us together is great for sim racing as a whole!
My race was really exciting, especially the first stint with me and Greger pushing on the ragged edge for 20 laps. Huge pity about him getting taken out. He knew with fresh tyres and Peter on old tyres if he did not get by his advantage from the pits would have been lost. I am sure there was nothing intentional about it, just one of those unfortunate things
Thanks to Fanatec, SimGear, Team Redline and friends."
Greger had this to say:
"My driving wasn't really that good, going into every braking zone I didn't really know what would happen. Made some small mistakes but managed to keep it on the island. I had a good stop and a bit more solid pace for those couple of laps so I thought I had to make a move because I didn't want Luke near my ass again. I knew it was risky but I had to try. Well at least it added some drama, glad to see people enjoyed the race. It was disappointing to get damage though, would have been cool to finish the race and get something out of it. The car was just snapping loose in the right handers so it would have been too dangerous to continue.
Thanks to Frosty and everyone else for organising this, it was a cool event. "
And finally, Dom had this to say:
"Firstly awesome drive Luke:) and well done to Max and Aleksi the 12 year old finn:)
I had a bad qual with a disco involved but still didnt nail a lap:(
Lost a place going 2 wide into maggots with Peter then spent half the race tryin to come back, managed to pass Peter, David and Brian then as I went into the pits I snatch Neutral! Never done that, epic fail damaged susp!
Unlucky to Greger and Bastien"
