Volker has been one of the most prolific and successful drivers since his sim-racing introduction a few years ago, the student from Aachen in Germany is now racing in iRacing.

* What do you do in real life?

I study mechanical engineering, specializing in automotive engineering.

* What is you favourite form of motor racing?

F1 is probably the series I follow the most, other than that MotoGP, NASCAR and the big LMP endurance races (Le Mans, Sebring, Petit).

* Who are you real life favorite drivers?

Michael Schumacher, Allan McNish.

* How did you get into sim racing?

In 2001 I played Colin McRae Rally 2 online a bit, then soon moved on to NASCAR Racing 4. Mainly because its multiplayer mode was so much better, it wasn't really about arcade vs sim racing yet back then.

* What kind of sim racing car do you like to drive?

Generally cars with a lot of power, and sufficient setup options to get the car to handle the way I like, which means most of all no understeer on entry.

* Whats your favorite track?

There are a lot of tracks I like, mainly faster ones such as Spa or Road Atlanta.

* Can you remember your first online race and what happened?

No.

* You have had great success over the years in oval racing, was there a transition to road racing or did you pick it up immediately?

It definitely took a while, in the first 2 or 3 seasons, I made way too many mistakes and wasn't really up to the pace either.

* Can you remember your greatest race, what happened?

I've had a lot of great races with Richard Towler, both in iRacing and in NR2003, where we had some mad racing and changed positions over and
over again from start to finish...can't really think of any single one that stands out.

* Where will sim racing be in 5 years?

On a computer.

Thanks Volker for that inside scoop!
