    Default Time to get started.

Hello it has been a little over a year since I posted, but I am ready to get into iracing but am very worried.

    Questions..

    1. Can a 500 or 600 dollar computer be visually fun with iRacing? Does anyone have suggestions on what computer would be good to use in that price range or maybe even cheaper?

    2. Is there a different between 5ms and 2ms on monitors in iRacing?

    3. Logitech has been out of stock for quite a long time with the G27. Is there any other place I can be comfortable buying a new G27? Maybe there is another good wheel that I don't know about?

I know one of you guys might say why not buy a fanatec? Well the fact that you have to buy a wheel and then the pedal set is unacceptable, it looks like the standard pedal set is crap and the website site is down right confusing when trying to figure out what you are getting with your purchase.

    4. I will be sitting in a chair at a desk. Does anyone have experience with that? Will I be okay doing that?

In game questions on planning my racing path.

    1. can you win money in other pro series besides nascar and F1?

    2. How many pro series are there and what are the cars in those series? From the 2 new cars coming out soon and the corvette it looks like there will be a le mans series, hopefully pro.

    3. Is there a difference between paddle shifting and using the stick?

I understand that it will be a long time until I get to that point, if I even do, but its good to know for a goal.

Thanks and good luck to you guys in the pro series.

No idea what that will get you in the US, so I can't really comment. There are plenty of graphics options you can turn down without it looking like crap, so you don't need a top of the line machine.

    2. Is there a different between 5ms and 2ms on monitors in iRacing?
Others may disagree but I don't believe that would make a difference. I wouldn't mind a 120hz monitor though.

    3. Logitech has been out of stock for quite a long time with the G27. Is there any other place I can be comfortable buying a new G27?
Prices can get stupid when stock gets low, but there should be plenty of places in the US you could order from.

Fanatec pedals are fine IMO. Don't see what the issue is buying 2 items instead of 1 bundle.

    4. I will be sitting in a chair at a desk. Does anyone have experience with that? Will I be okay doing that?
I sit at a desk. I don't find it ideal comfort wise, but it gets the job done.

    1. can you win money in other pro series besides nascar and F1?
You get up to $10 per season just for participating in the normal series if you compete in at least 8 of the 12 weeks each season. It's something like $4 per a lower series and $7 per higher series with a $10 cap.

For the bigger bucks there are currently 2 premier series which run 1 season per year. One in the Indycar and a multiclass one with the Riley DP & the Mustang. I've attached the documents for them so you can see the prize money etc. I think there may be more next year for other cars like the V8 Supercar. Not sure where the LMP2 car will slot in but it wouldn't surprise me if it were included in a premier series as well.

    2. How many pro series are there and what are the cars in those series?
Pro series are the feeder for DWC so there are only 2 of them. See above for Premier series.

    3. Is there a difference between paddle shifting and using the stick?
Paddle is easier because you don't take your hands off the wheel. iRacing will not let you use a H-Pattern in a car that doesn't have one in real life. It's up to you if you want to use a sequential stick for "realism" or whatever.

I understand that it will be a long time until I get to that point, if I even do, but its good to know for a goal.
Pro format has changed and the premier series are open to all, so it wouldn't be long at all before you could be competing in them. It would be possible for someone joining now to be in the world championship next year if they were good enough.

    Hope that helps.

    Hey Damien

Just to echo what Darren said, the fanatec stuff is fine, however, if you are really against it, I would suggest looking at a driving force pro gt- the pedals aren't as good at the g27 but the wheel I think is better and is in stock and cheaper!

Alright so I was on fanatec and saw the Porshe 911 Carrera wheel for $160.00 including Pedals with clutch and a 6+1 shifter. It just bothers me with the lack of info I am given on there.

I will probably be a rookie for awhile so...

Will the plastic pedals still work good enough to be competitive?

    Same with the shifter?

Does it come with a tightening thing for a desk?

Plastic pedals are ok, they are slightly less consistent than the higher end pedals, but if you can drive with them you should be able to drive with anything.

    What's your budget?

I don't know what my budget is. I want to go as cheap as possible. But not to cheap that the experience is bad. Maybe umm $500.00
