Round 7 – iRacing.com Grand Prix Series World Championship
Round 7 of the iRacing.com Grand Prix Series World Championship took the teams and drivers to Sonoma (Infineon) for a challenging 75 lap race. Hugo Luis took pole being the only driver into the sub 1:07 bracket while Greger Huttu would start second getting the better of team mate Atze Kerkhof by .005 leaving Atze to start third while Luke McLean to start out of sixth place as Darren Marsh and Ben Cornett would start out of 18th and 20th after a hard qualifying session and didn’t get all the time out of their respectful cars.
Greger Huttu took the lead with a fantastic start and was never challenged as he held pace all race putting time on Hugo Luis in both pit stops on his way to yet another race win and extending his championship lead even more. Atze Kerkhof would come home in third place, but not without trouble.. As he was forced to pit when coming to the white flag as he didn’t have enough fuel but still managed to have a big enough gap that he would hold position and take the final spot on the podium.
Darren Marsh had a fantastic drive keeping out of trouble and securing another top ten finish (8th) and now only 1 position out of the top ten in the championship. Unfortunately for Ben Cornett and Luke McLean they found trouble throughout the race and had to retire there FW31’s at different stages during the race and would finish well back in the field.
Round 8 will take the teams to another challenging track where there is more retirements then finishers and that’s VIR.
